July 21, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 33 in Town and Country 1g "We Americans" Is on Teatro del Lago Schedule for Week Arthur Take and Barbara Kent, Universal's two popular junior stars, will be seen together for the first time in the farcical comedy, "Stop That Man," which will be shown at the Teatro del Lago this Saturday, July 21. This is a story of youth's desire to grow up in order to accomplish some- thing in the world. The spirit of youth pervades the picture. Another picture to be shown on the same bill is "A Thief in the Dark," a mystery circus picture which concerns the activities of a gang of side-show crooks and their attempts to steal a fortune in jewels from an eccentric old recluse and his pretty granddaughter. The all-star cast is headed by George Meeker, of "Four Sons," and Doris Hill. "Harold Teen," coming to the Teatro del Lago this Sunday, July 22, is Har- old «f the comic strip come to life on the screen. It is a rollicking and hilarious farce of high school activi- ties in a small town with a great cast of funsters. Arthur Lake walks away with honors as Harold. Mary Brian, as Lillums; Lucien Littlefield, as Grandpap, and Alice White, as the dizzy blonde, rank as close seconds. In "The Drag Net," George Ban- croft's latest starring vehicle for Para- mount, which opens Monday at the Teatro del Lago for two days, the theme of the story is featured by new treatment of the underworld melo- dramatic plot. Two-Gun Nolan {George Bancroft), far famed shot, is police captain of the town's toughest district. His immediate problem is Trent, murderer and arch gangster. No one on the force but a young de- tective has ever found Trent's hang- out; he is murdered, and from that point, gang mass-movement contrasts effectively with Nolan's efforts to avenge the boy. Three complete casts of film celeb- rities in a single picture is the depar- ture from ordinary film drama in "Dia- mond Handcuffs," gripping drama of love, diamonds and the underworld, which comes to the Teatro del Lago next Wednesday, July 25. Eleanor Boardman, Lawrence Gray, Conrad Nagel, Gwen Lee, and Lena Malena are among the principals appearing in the casts. Evelyn Brent, beautiful brunette act- ress, appears in the chief supporting role to Adolphe Menjou in that star's latest production entitled "His Tiger Lady," to be shown at the Teatro del Lago next Thursday. It is the story of a practical joke that turned into a real love affair between a rich wom- an and a 'super' of the stage. "We Americans," Teatro attraction for next Friday, is not a racial pic- ture, but a drama of American immi- grants. A Russian, a German, and an Italian family came to America fifteen years before the war. Their struggles for an existence, their loyalty, and their perplexities (particularly over the younger generation who find it so easy to assimilate American ideas and cus- toms), make a story of absorbing in- terest. George Sidney plays the lead- ing role. Gloria Swanson's new picture is now called "Queen Kelly," instead of "The Swamp." And Edmund Lowe is to have the male lead, we are told. "Chinatown Charlie" Is on Community House Bill Johnny Hines will be seen in "China- town Charlie," one of his best produc- tions, at the Community House next Tuesday, July 24. The picture is full of gags and laughs, and is refreshingly free from the usual comedy formula. Good melodrama, a few thrills, colorful backgrounds and a splendid support- ing cast will appeal to theater goers. A scenic picture, "Mountains of Gla- cier Park," will also be shown at the Community House next Tuesday. "The Patsy," with Marion Davies and Lawrence Grey is the Community House attraction for Friday of next week. Miss Davies gives an exquisite portrayal of Patsy. Her impersona- tions of Pola Negri, Lillian Gish, and Mae Murray are captivating. Direc- tor King Vidor has made a fine balance of comedy and drama in this picture. "An 'ugly duckling' story, but clean and amusing" says one critic. Clara Bow is planning to make a two months' tour of Yellowstone National park, the Grand Canyon, and Zion Na- tional park after she has completed "The Fleet's In."
