THE WASHINGTON LAUNDRY Wilmette 145 WOULD PUMP LAKE WATER ACROSS SKOKIE MARSH Negotiations Underway for Two Lines, One to Northbrook and One to Northfield Negotiations are now well under way looking to the extension of two large water pipe lines across the Skokie to supply lake water to two of the rapid- ly growing sections to the west. One of these is the Glencoe-North- brook connection and the other is the Winnetka-Northfield negotiation. Glencoe, which formerly purchased its water supply from Winnetka, has now in operation a modern plant of its own and is in a position to supply its thriving sister village to the west with lake water, towards which negotiations are rapidly drawing to a point of closing, it is said. Northfield, just across the Skokie from Winnetka, a village only twc years old with a population of some- thing like one hundred families, has been looking to Winnetka as a source of lake water which, the future out- look of the village indicates, will be required very soon. Hold Public Hearing The negotiations have already pro- gressed to a point where a public hear- ing on the matter was held by the Northfield Village Board of Local Im- provements on Monday evening. The question was discussed, and ad- journment then taken to a later date, for further consideration of the pro- ject. Northfield is two miles square, its east boundary, extending over to the west Winnetka line. Already building operations have started in the new town, and those who are directing its development feel that the one thing most needed at this time to insure the speedy growth of Northfield, will be the supply of lake water which the Winnetka plant will be able to give them. Building Under Way Four new residences have recently been built down in the south part of the village, two of which are on Hard- ing road and two on Winnetka avenue. There are also four fine new resi- dences over in the George F. Nixon sub-division, west of the tracks, where sidewalks are also being put in, this summer. The Willoway sub-division, east of the tracks and south of Willow road, and Willow Crest sub-division, also east of the tracks but north of Wil- low are laid out into fine building lots and are all ready for the "boom" which, it is felt by all Northfield resi- dents is due to start almost any time, and particularly in the event the pro- curing of good lake water from the Winnetka plant becomes a reality. Museum to Show Motion Pictures for Children Two free moving pictures for chil- dren, "Peter Stuyvesant" and "The Gateway to the West" will be shown next Thursday, August 2, in the James Simpson theater of Field Museum of Natural History at 10:30 a. m. Children from all parts of Chicago and suburbs are invited by Stephen C. Simms, di- rector of the museum. This is one of the series of enter- tainments under the joint auspices, of the South Park commissioners and the Raymond division for children, of the museum. Special parties of children from the south side will come to the museum at 9:30 from various parks and playgrounds under control of the South Park commissioners, who have arranged for museum tours and lec- tures preceding the moving pictures. or below cost.
