July 28, 1928 WINNETKA TALK the Stage Community House to Show Monte Blue in | "The Bush Leaguer" Monte Blue, hero of many stirring dramas, will be seen in "The Bush Leaguer" at the Community House in Winnetka next Tuesday evening, July 31. Monte stars as a modest young Idaho inventor and gas station owner, who breaks the monotony of life by pitching for the team that has its dia- mond on the lot adjoining his property. Fate enters in the form of a beauti- ful motorist, who, stopping to have the gasoline tank replenished, so interests the bespectacled youth that he ac- cepts a job on a professional team in her home town, Los Angeles. What follows is a riot. Clyde Cook and Leila Hyams, who supported Monte Blue in "The Brute," are featured. Others in the cast are William Demarest, Richard Tucker, Bud Marshall, Tom Dempsey, Wilfred North, William Wilson, Violet Pal- mer and Rodney Hildebrand. "The Smart Set," starring William Haines, is the Community House at- traction for Friday of next week. Haines, in this picture, is a brash youth again. He plays a lad born with a gold spoon in his mouth. Polo and flappers are his chief interest. He is kicked off the polo team for being too fresh. Then father decides to make a man of the boy. There is an excit- ing polo game. You will like Haines. He is amusing. And Alice Day, Ho- bart Bosworth, and Jack Holt lend good support. In addition to the regular pictures the Community House has booked added features for next week. On Tuesday there will be a picture called "Trail of the Tiger," and on Friday an Oswald comedy. "Miss Universe" Coming to Norshore Next Week "Ramona" is the picture announced for the Norshore beginning this Sun- day. It was one of June's six best photoplays, and no better recom- mendation need be given than the following by a Chicago critic: "A charming thing! Adapted from the beloved story by Helen Hunt Jack- son and starred in by Dolores Del Rio, who in it found a role that will bring her close to the hearts of her admirers. The wanton of "What Price Glory" is now a simple, wistful, loving incredibly fascinating Indian maid, born for tragedy and fulfilling her fate before a background of scenery so beautiful that it brings a catch to the throat. There is a mourning tender rhythm to this story, and it has been caught by all the players--and the director, who de- scends to deliberate "theatre" only a couple of times. Pictorially "Ramona" is glorious! In addition to the picture a gala stage product is on the Norshore bill for next week. It is to be called "Pacific Breezes," and will be presided over by the youthful Frankie Masters, as- sisted by the Jazz Collegians. "Miss Universe" is also scheduled to appear at the Norshore next week. "Miss Universe," as you know, is Miss Ella Van Heuson, of Chicago, who was first chosen "Miss America" at the Galveston, Tex., beauty contest and then in competition with beauties from other countries was named the most beautiful of all.
