CWO August 4, 1928 WINNETKA TALK : 7 CAMPERS RETURN WITH . . WATCH OUR WINDOWS FOR DAILY SPECIALS ie Cites Prison Needs mr TALES OF FINE TIMES Mrs. E. W. Wortley, Counselor at Girls' Camp Departs on Annual Vacation Mrs. Eloise W. Wortley, assistant to "Chief" J. W. F. Davies, director of Community House activities, will leave August 6 for her annual month's va- cation. Mrs. Wortley returned last Satur- day from Indian Hill summer camp at Hamlin lake, near Ludington, Mich., where she had spent eighteen days as head counselor of the group of thirty- three Winnetka girls in their anual outing at this popular camping resort. "Chief" Davies Remains During the eighteen days preceding, thirty-three Winnetka boys enjoyed the pleasure of camp life at Hamlin lake, where "Chief" Davies was camp director, at both sessions. He will re- main there through the present month. The following comment on the joys of life at Indian Hill camp, offered by one of the girl campers, is sanctioned by her fellow campers: "Well, we all returned to Winnetka Saturday, July 28, glad to be home but very sorry that camping days at Indian Hill camp on Hamlin lake were over for another year. Time "Awfully Short" "Eighteen days is an awfully short time when you consider all we do-- hikes to Lake Michigan, treasure hunts and canoe trips up the Sauble river, or trips to the sand dunes. "This year, unsettled weather pre- vented the customary trip to the light- house, a memorable hike across a wide strip of duneland between our Lake Hamlin and Michigan. "But clouds or even rain didn't stop our work on the shingles of the new shop that "Chief" is building for wood- work. And this year we made canoe paddles, as well as all kinds of leather things such as purses, billfolds, and portfolios. "So our eighteen days' fun in be- coming acquainted with the outdoors, and one another, is over for this year, but we're already planning for next year."
