Prof. U. S. Grant and Prof. J. T. Stark of the department of geology and geography of Northwestern university will conduct this unique summer course in geology. The members of the class will be away from civilization four weeks. After outfitting at Ely, Minn, they will travel by canoe eastward through lakes along the international boundary between Minnesota and Ontario and circle back to Ely. The course will be devoted largely to a study of the Pre-Cambrian geol- ogy of parts of the Lake Superior region, especially northeastern Min- nesota and adjacent parts of Ontario. Students will be trained in methods of geological field work and in detailed mapping of selected areas. A day will be spent at the head of Lake Superior, where intrusive and extrusive Keween- awan rocks, Lake Superior sandstone, old lake beaches, ore docks and the like will be studied, as well as the great fault on the south side of the Lake Superior basin. The productive part of both the Mesabi and Vermilion iron ranges will be visited. Of the sixteen students in the party, half of them will be graduate students doing advanced work in geology. Three of them have their master's degrees now, and one a Ph. D. Besides North- western, Cornell university, the Uni- versity of Rochester (N. Y.), the Uni- versity of Illinois, Hamilton college (Clinton, N. Y.), and the Mississippi Agricultural and Mechanical College will be represented. Wilmette Golf Club in Annual Pow Wow Aug. 8 The annual Pow Wow or day for men at the Wilmette Golf club will be held Wednesday, August 8. This is one of the most popular events of the season at the club and never fails to attract a large turnout of golfers. Special prizes will be awarded to the winners of the various events. GARBAGE CAN IN GROUND Place your refuse in the ground-- another type of refuse disposal now on the market. It is a container of galvanized iron, insulated and placed in the ground. The cover can be lifted by merely touching a lever with the foot. It closes when the foot is re- moved. PARIS LOOKS GOOD! The North Shore Real Estate Board has been functioning without its president, Lewis T. Dodd, whose thoughts are far away from real estate. Mr. Dodds is touring Europe, but just to show he hasn't forgot- ten the North Shore he sends a card which reads: "We are just back from Italy and Paris looks good to us."
