16 SEE WINNETKA TALK August 4, 1928 NEW TRIER'S TENNIS TOURNAMENT BEGINS John Sheldon, Last Year's Cham- pion, Is Favorite for Honors The tennis tournament at New Trier High school got under way this week. Drawings were made on Monday and play began immediately. Winners in the *preliminary matches must take two out of three sets. In later rounds the winners will be required to take three out of five sets. John Sheldon, who beat Eddie Ful- ton in the finals of last year's tennis tournament at New Trier, is again entered and is considered one of the favorites to take the championship honors. He is an A-1 ranking player in Illinois and the Middle West. Ful- ton, last year's runner-up, is not en- tered this year. Several other ranking players have registered for the tournament. Among them are: Bob Stewart, Florida boys' champion; Bob McMahon, Illinois boys' champion, and Bill Morris, Sean High school champion. Stewart whipped M. Dudley 6-10 and 6-1 in his opening match, and Morris' victory over Bill Gibson was almost as deci- sive, 6-1, 6-2. In his first match Shel- don whipped L. Dickenson 6-2, 6-2. North Shore Woman Second to Climb 13,000-foot Peak Miss Marion Montgomery, of Hub- bard Woods, is the second woman to climb Mount Robson, highest moun- tain in the Canadian Rockies, accord- ing to word received here recently. Miss Robson, who is a member of the Sierra club of California, was ac- companied by Don Woods, of Spok- ane, Wash., and Norman Clyde, of In- dependence, Cal. Both are members of the Sierra club also. Mount Robson is 13,000 feet above sea level. It took the party three days to climb it.
