EE 42 WINNETKA TALK August 4, 1928 JOHN BALMES John Balmes, resident of Evanston for 45 years, died at his home, 947 Sherman avenue, Thursday evening, July 26, after a lingering illness. He was 75 years old. Surviving him are his widow, Catherine; five sons, Fred and John of Wilmette, George of Florida. Albert and Edward of Ev- anston; seven daughters, Mrs. Anna Barg, Mrs. Helen Ludlow of Evans- ton, Mrs. Margaret Nohrmann, Mrs. Gertrude Muno and Mrs. Edith Klam- foth of Chicago, Mrs. Catherine Nei- ween and Mrs. Mary Neiween of Wil- mette; two brothers, George Balmes of Alcho, Wis, and Michael Balmes of Wilmette; and a sister, Mrs. Mar- garet Felzer of Techny, IIL Funeral services were held Monday morning at St. Nicholas church, and interment was at St. Peter's cemetery in Niles Center. Mrs. Amos Miller, formerly of Kenilworth, now of Evanston will be back Monday after two weeks' stay in the mountains of Colorado. At pres- ent she is at Estes Park. --_--p-- Mr. and Mrs. John C. Hubbard Woods Trust & Savings Bank 952 Linden Avenue Hubbard Woods Man Injured in Motor Crash at Intersection An automobile accident at Tower road and Vernon avenue, Friday eve- ning at 7:30 o'clock, resulted when Phil Vinci, of 1913 Central street Ev- anston attempted to pass on the wrong side, a car driven by John Ostrowsky, of West Park avenue, Highland Park. The Vinci car, in passing on the right side, struck the rear of the Ostrowsky car, throwing Paul Stano, also a resi- dent of West Park avenue, Highland Park, into the street, fracturing his collar bone. The accident was report- ed to the Winnetka police by Ostrow- sky. ON TOUR EAST Tom and Jack Hicks and Harold Keith of Kenilworth, left Wednesday morning, July 25, to drive east in their roadster. Their first stop was Detroit. From there they went to Niagara Falls. From Niagara they are going to Ithaca, N. Y. to visit Mr. and Mrs. Poole, who used to live in Kenilworth, and to see Cornell university, They expect to go to Yale, Harvard, Prince- ton and Dartmouth universities and on their way home they will stay a few days in New York City and Washing- ton, D. C. and will visit Mr. and Mrs. John C. Carpenter at their summer home in the mountains of Virginia. Mr. and Mrs. John K. Parshall and family motored to Nashville, Tenn, recently to spend a fortnight. They brought Miss Temple of Nashville back to spend a few weeks with them. --O-- Miss Mary Branigar of Leicester road, Kenilworth left Wednesday to visit her roommate for a week at her home in Michigan. --Cp-- Mrs. George Richards returned to Kenilworth recently after spending a few weeks in New York. Scholarship Award Goes to Park Ridge Woman Mrs. Walter T. Fisher, 1051 Cherry street, who is chairman of the scholar- ship committee for this district whose duty was to award the Rad- cliffe college anniversary scholarship, held a meeting of her members last week and decided that Miss Hazel Saul of Park Ridge was to be the recipient of this honor. Mrs. Heyliger A. de Windt of Winnetka, Mrs. Harry J. Dunbaugh of Hubbard Woods and Mrs. Ralph G. Crandall of Evanston were the other members of the com- mittee. This scholarship carries with it more honor than usual for it is one of fifteen awarded throughout the country by Radcliffe this year only to commemorate the 50th anniversary of he founding of the college.
