Such it seems is the case with Edwin Arlington Robinson, who, his publisher reports, is spending the summer at Peterborough, the Mac- Dowell colony, he has done most of his poetic work. A life of Thomas Hardy will ap- pear in the Fall. Most of the ma- terial was gathered by his wife, Florence Emily Hardy, from his own diaries and writings. At the same time plans are going forward for a memorial to Hardy in his native Dor- setshire which he made so famous. St. John Ervine, well known as novelist and playwright, the most famous among his plays perhaps be- ing "Jane Clegg," has been weaned away from London to become dram- atic critic for the New York Herald- where Canadian Romance Latest Book by Johnston Abbott The heroine of Johnston Abbotts new romance of early Canada is Denise, the beautiful and arrogant ward of a French nobleman. The hero, Paul de Ste. Etienne of Quebec, who tells the story, is a most likable fellow. A search for silver mines in the wilderness, the disappearance of Gaston, Paul's cousin, the complica- tions which arise because of his sup- posed death, and the dangers of the search for him among unfriendly In- dians make the tale thrilling reading. It is a romance of pure adventure, with its setting in New France, the Canada of two centuries ago. Incident follows incident with a rapidity which reminds one of Dumas. Mr. Abbott calls his novel "The Seigneurs of La Saulaye." It was an- nounced for publication on August 7.
