A festive air surrounds the events of Sunday, September 2, which will be ushered in by a concert in the afternoon by the Chicago Symphony orchestra under Mr. DeLamarter's di- rection and during which twelve mem- bers of the orchestra will apear as soloists. These include Jacques Gor- don, violin; Alfred Wallenstein, cello; Edward Llewellyn, trumpet; Alfred Barthel, oboe; Theodore Yesche, flute; Robert Lindeman, clarinet; Hugo Fox, bassoon; Joseph Vito, harp; Clarence Evans, viola; Pellegri- no Lecee, horn; Francis Napolilli, English horn and Gustave Stang, trombone. Double Bill Sunday On Sunday night, September 2, a double bill will be presented consist- ing of "Pagliacci" and the garden scene from "The Jewels of the Ma- donna," this being the first time these works have ever been combined. Mme. Rethberg will sing the role of Nedda in Pagliacci" for the first time this season, although she has achieved splendid success in this part in seasons past. Edward Johnson will be cast as Canio in which he has achieved great success, while Giuseppe Danise will be Tonio. Mr. Cehanovsky will be Sil- vio and Mr. Mojica, Beppe. The gar- den scene from "The Jewels of the Madonna" will have Miss Easton as Maliella, one of the most dramatic roles in opera, and Mario Chamlee will be heard as Gennaro. Mario Basiola is cast as Raffaele and Anna Correnti wil be Carmella. Mr. Papi will con- uct. Entertaining Continuing for Bride and Attendants The last of the affairs in honor of Miss Margaret MacLean, a bride of September 5, now are being given. Last Friday Mrs. Harry Gardiner of Kenilworth and Mrs. Edwin Cole of Highland Park were hostesses at a luncheon and bridge for Miss Mac- Lean and Mrs. Robert Lewis (Helen Bruch). Tuesday afternoon Mrs. Louis Bruch and her daughter, Miss Marcia, were hostesses at a bridge luncheon at the Bruch home in Ev- anston. Mr. and Mrs. John Albert MacLean, parents of 'the bride-elect, will give an informal tea Sunday eve- ning at their home in Wilmette. Mrs. James Martin of Chicago (Virginia Smith) will entertain the bridal party at the theater Mon- day evening and Tuesday Mrs. Wil liam Palmer Winslow (Virginia Bey- mer of Evanston) will be hostess at a luncheon and shower. That evening Mr. and Mrs. MacLean will give the bridal dinner at the Edgewater Beach hotel. The ceremony will be read at 8:30 o'clock at the Wilmette Congregational church, the Rev. Vere V. Loper officiat- ing, assisted by the Rev. William /E. McCormack, and the reception follow- ing will be held in the Kenilworth club. TAYLOR-JOHNSTON Dr. and Mrs. Max E.
