PENS MESSAGE TO WINNETKA PARENTS Explains Function of Winnetka Organization of Which All Parents Are Members Editor's Note: The Winnetka Par- ent-Teacher association has a message in this article that is of vital interest to all parents of Winnetka school children. It explains the functions of the association and offers suggestions relative to the assistance the associa- tion is happy to give parents of chil- ten entering the schools next Mon- ay. School" opens Monday, September 10. The board of the Winnetka Par- ent-Teacher association is anxious that the parents who have had children in the schools before, and those parents who are placing their children in the schools for the first time, feel a vital interest in the association and take an active part in its work. The main object of the Parent- Teacher association, according to its constitution are: Stands for Co-operation 1. To further co-operation between parent and teacher. The more the teacher knows about the child, his home and parents, the more she can accomplish. It is a great advantage to the mother and father to know personally the teacher with whom their child spends so many hours each day. For many, the Sys- tem is a little hard to understand. Fre- quent talks with the principal and teachers will clear up many difficulties. IL The second object is parent edu- cation. Early in October, notices will be sent to every member of the asso- ciation with a tentative program for the year. The second object of the Association is carried out by inspiring and interesting talks which will give an opportunity for both educational and social meetings. All Parents Are Members As any parent is a member of the association if he cares to be, the board would be very grateful if the member- ship chairman, Mrs. William Jones Smith, is notified, if anyone does not receive one of these notices. Her telephone number is Winnetka 290. Many mothers, for different reasons, can not take an active part in the work for the year; but each should feel she 1s a member and that her interest is as helpful as her active participation. The association can only be success- ful if every member is enthusiastic and interested. We welcome suggestions and criticisms in regard to policy and meetings. The opening day of school, the chair- man of each school, with two other mothers will be in the halls of their school, and will be glad to answer any questions, or help in any way. In order that both parents and teachers may know their own school chairman, the list of chairmen and their telephone number are listed here: Skokie school: Mrs. Hobart Young-- Winnetka 68. EA Greeley school: Mrs... Myron Har- Legion Members Ready for Big State Sessions The annual state convention of the American Legion will be held at Wau- kegan, Monday and Tuesday, Septem- ber 10 and 11. Install Eipergoncy Device to Heat Village Plant The installation of an auxiliary oil- burning equipment under two boilers at the municipal water and light plant for use in emergencies, insuring against an interruption in service, has been authorized by the Village council. Wise of New York city, one of the world's foremost Jew- ish divines, delivered the principal address 'at the installation of Rabbi Louis J. Kopald as rabbi of the North Shore Congregation Israel last eve- ning. The ceremonies were held in the temple located in Glencoe. Unnecessary Noise Now Constitutes a Nuisance Hereabout The term "Nuisances" in the Win- netka Village code now has a much broader meaning than it did prior to the meeting of the Village council Tuesday evening, when an amending clause to the ordinance was passed. It was introduced at a former meet- ing of the council by Trustee William B. Moulton. The new paragraph, which will be known as nuisance No. 21, provides that "To produce, cause, or permit to be produced, in or upon any premises, any offensive noise to the disturbance of the peace and quiet of the persons residing in the vicinity of such prem- ises," shall constitute a nuisance. It was pointed out that it covers a multitude of possibilities but was ad- mitted that the long time complaint of residents in the vicinity of the un- loading tracks in the railroad vards was uppermost in mind. Health Officer Returns From Motor Journey East Dr. H. A. Orvis, of 1096 Oak street, health officer of the village of Win- netka, returned Tuesday from a two weeks' vacation at Orchard Park, New York.
