It need not be mentioned that Harold Lloyd plavs the leading role, and that the picture is for mama, papa and the chil- dren: It is a comedy of the first rank. Two other pictures to be shown at the Pearl this week are also ranked among the best, "The Gaucho" and "Mv Best Girl." The former is a story of love, life and religion among the bandits of the Andes, excitingly and nicturesquely enacted by Douglas Fair- banks, with Lupe Velez as his leading woman. It will be shown next Tues- day, September 11. "My Best Girl" coming to the Pearl next Thursday, September 13, shows Mary Pickford at her best. Charles Rogers plays oppo- site her. Tomorrow at the Pearl Bob Steele will be seen in "Trail of Courage." Monday Billie Dove will make her ap- pearance in "American Beauty," where Miss Dove has her fling at playing a modern Cinderella. Ted Wells in "Clean Up Man" is the picture for Wednesday, and on Friday there will be a double program--Alice Day "ii "Way of the Strong" and Cullen Lan- dis in "Finnegan's Ball." Community House to Show "We Americans" Next Week The Community House has booked a double picture program for next Tuesday, September 11. Ken May- nard and his wonder horse, Tarzan, will be seen in "The Canyon of Ad- venture." This is a cyclonic melodra- ma of the fast and furious West. Mr. Maynard is an Army scout who shoots up a Spanish gang right clean to pro- tect the girl In "Hero for a Night," also on Tuesday's bill at the Community House, Glenn Tryon, the sensational new screen comedian, plays the part of a taxicab driver who takes a cor- respondence course in aviation and then attempts a round-the-world flight. "We Americans," chosen by Photo- play as one of the six best pictures during the month of May, is to be shown at the Community House next Friday, September 14. Eddie Cantor Will Appear at Granada Theater in Person Marks Brothers have proclaimed a Greater Show season at their Granada and Marbro theaters which started last Saturday, September 1, when the first of the special star shows and greater photoplays was brought to the public. The Greater Show season will | cover a period of three months, during the course of which time twelve great stage stars and twelve photoplays, most of them "talkies," will be select- ed. The stars will be brought to the public in groups of three, and the first group started with John Steel, Amer- ica"s foremost and most celebrated tenor, who has been appearing at the Granada this week in Benny Meroff's "Welcome Benny," a special stage show with Clemons and Darcy, Stutz and Bingham, and other noteworthy performers. The second star in the first Greater Show season group will be Eddie Cantor, Florenz Ziegfeld's inimitable artist who has not been seen in Chi- cago for many years. He will come to the Granada theater starting Saturday, September 8, in a stage show that will be entirely different from the usual band show production. It will be called "Very Good Eddie," and Charles Kaley will preside with his baton. There will be a ballet of twenty and Eddie Cantor will bring a new selec- tion of songs, anecdotes, and dances. "RIO RITA" COMING SOON October 14 is the date and the Illi- nois theater the place tentatively named for the appearance in Chicago of the musical attraction "Rio Rita." In the meantime, "Whispering Friends," the play by Mr. Cohan, con- tinues to hold forth at the Illinois. THE DEVIL GOT SICK "When the Devil Was Sick" is the title of a play purchased by Universal for the intended use of Reginald Den- ny. E. J. Rath, author of the play, also wrote "The Nervous Wreck," adapted by Owen Davis. Arnold Kent, young Italian player who came to Hollywood three years ago, has signed a new contract with Paramount to continue as a featured player.
