Bartlett was elected president of the Illinois Municipal league at its fifteenth an- nual session held in Jol- ietlast week. Red Cross Pleads for Contributions to Hurricane Area There is immediate need for relief in the West Indies following the dev- astating hurricane of last week, and the American National Red Cross has appealed for voluntary contributions to the relief program, according to James B. Forgan, Jr. chairman of Chicago chapter, of the Red Cross. "The Red Cross has given $50,000 and dispatched expert disaster relief workers to Porto Rico," Mr. Forgan said. "Tons of foodstuffs, clothing and supplies have also been shipped to the islands. However, this is only a small start since the preliminary survey made in the islands show need of a large relief fund such has been the heavy losses in life and property." President Coolidge Saturday re- quested that the Red Cross take charge of the relief program in the islands and at the same time placed at the organization's disposal any and all naval craft necessary to transport workers and supplies to the relief of the sufferers. Contributions to the relief fund should be sent to Chicago chapter, American National Red Cross, 616 S. Michigan avenue, Mr. Forgan said. They will then be transferred to Wash- ington in a lump sum. ENTERTAINS FOR AMBASSADOR Mr. and Mrs. Amos Miller, former- ly of Melrose avenue, Kenilworth and now of Evanston, entertained Sir John Tilly, lady Tilly and their daughter, for tea last Saturday afternoon at their home. Sir Tilly is the British ambass- ador to Tokyo. They were passing through Chicago on their way to their new post, Frank Watt, II, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Watt of 415 Cumnor road, Kenilworth, has returned from the re- gatta at Lake Geneva where he was with Mrs. Watt's parents. He left last Tuesday for Harvard university.
