September 22, 1928 WINNETKA TALK WILL ROGERS DEFERS NEW TRIER LECTURE Great Humorist's North Shore Speaking Engagement to Be Filled Early in 1929 Announcement was made this week that Will Rogers, famous American humorist, who was scheduled to speak in the new gymnasium at New Trier High school November 14 under the auspices of the Tri-ship club, has post- poned his visit on the north shore until sometime after the first of the year. The postponement, according to those in charge of arrangements for the affair at New Trier High school, was entirely unavoidable. Mr. Rogers can- celled this and other similar engage- ments in order to take the place of his friend, Fred Stone, in a musical show in which that famous actor was to have a leading part in New York. Mr. Stone was seriously injured in an airplane accident on August 3. More than 100 speaking engagements were on Mr. Rogers' itinerary between Sep- tember 1 and December 1, and his de- cision to help his friend was made at a great financial loss to himself, it is said. Meanwhile, the Tri-ship club of New Trier High school is proceeding with plans for Mr. Rogers' visit to the north shore later this year. Funds derived from the entertainment to be given by the humorist will be used to furnish the boys' club room in the new gymnasium and for other chari- table purposes. The boys heading various committees for the entertainment are: Martin Cassell, general chairman; John Betak, publicity; Alan McNaughton, house arrangements, and Robert Marcus, tickets. The definite date for Mr. Rogers' appearance will be announced later.
