The enthusi- astic response from the audience gave evidence of their appreciation of the work Miss Graham is doing. Three most interesting and helpful talks were given on Parent-Teacher co-operation. Mrs. Hughes gave the teacher's point of view and spoke upon the co-operation which exists and should exist between the home and the school. Mrs. Ralph Renwick gave the mother's point of view, stressing the need for knowing and appreciating our wonderful school system here in Winnetka. Mrs. Walter Fisher, who is both a mother and a teacher, gave a most inspiring talk on the ideals every mother should strive to have in connection with true co-operation be- tween the school and the home. Save Hubbard Woods Trust & Savings Bank Hubbard Woods NORTHFIELD BOOMING 2-Year-Old Hamlet West of Winnetka Assumes Proportions of Industrial Center: Awaits Lake Water Supply While the two-year-old village of Northfield adjoining Winnetka on the west, now well platted and subdivided for homesites, is awaiting final nego- tiations with local officials to supply that community with lake water, its industrial section, extending along the tracks on either side of Willow road, is experiencing a rapid development. A dozen or more large material sup- ply yards of various kinds, owned by firms serving the north shore area are already located there and others are coming, it is said. A number of Winnetka firms, in order to acquire large tracts for their increasing business have taken prop- erty in Northfield and a switch engine is now maintained continuously on the job, shunting cars here and there for unloading purposes. Members of the Northfield Village board met with the Winnetka Village council last Tuesday evening for the purpose of negotiating the contract for lake water supply. This service would be effected by extending a pipe line from the west Winnetka limits to Northfield. Braun Brothers Oil company has large storage tanks at Northfield; yards of the Winnetka Coal and Lum- ber company, Builders' service, E. C. Weisenberg, B. W. Blow, Mercer Lumber and Coal company, Lynam Brothers & Smith, Schaefer Oil com- pany, Commerce Petroleum company, Apex Oil company, Consumers Coal company, Thomas Gorey, building contractor, are among the firms now operating from Northfield. The new 100-foot Skokie Valley highway, contract for construction of which was awarded recently, will traverse Northfield a short distance east of the tracks. Mercedes Pastry Shop to Oven Doors Oct. 27 The Mercedes Pastry shop, 859% Linden avenue, Hubbard Woods, will hold its formal opening Saturday, October 27, under the ownership of Joseph Todd. Mr. Todd has been in the bakery business for twenty-two years. In addition to bakery and pas- try goods the shop will handle fancy delicatessen articles, it is explained.
