Rh tiie October 20, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 45 DR. JAMES M. YARD ADDRESSES SOCIETY (Continued from page 40) said, that, perhaps, the ultimate pur- pose of the organization is raising the standard of family life, and family re- organization. He feels that the name, "United Charities," should be changed to, "The Family Welfare Society," as that em- bodies in the name, what the organiza- tion is aiming to accomplish. Mr. Hunter closed by reading some of the records of those families which have been under the suservision of the United Charities. In almost every in- stance there was marked improvement in each family. Some were helped through illness, others relieved of economic distress, and helped to help themselves. The workers in the organization re- ceived enthusiastic praise from Mr. Hunter for their fine work and unfail- ing co-operation, which also applies to the many organizations such as the Infant Welfare society and the Juven- ile Protective league which are con- stantly working in conjunction with the United Charities. Mr. Hunter urged the necessity of the same co-operation in all undertak- ings. He said Winnetka was outstand- ing in its fine community spirit, a spirit so essential to growth, not only in our own community but in relation to the more remote problems of Chi- cago, which, are after all, our problems. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. Maurice Leigh, Mrs. Albert Smith, Mrs. William Reitheimer, Mrs. E. R. Cogswell, Mrs. Wallace Rum- sey, and Mrs. Arthur Barrett. Im- mediately following Mr. Hunter's talk, tea was served. Stages New Play "Land's End," a play championing the immortality of marriage, written by Shelton Sackett of Evanston (Mrs. Samuel J. Sackett), had its initial pres- entation Wednesday afternoon before the Wilmette Woman's club. Mrs. Sackett is a member of the Town and Gown play-writing class, and her pub-. lished play, "Noctourne," took high honors in the Pasadena play contest and has won many tournament prizes. She is also author of "Late Spring" and "A Quiet Evening at Home." 3 Austin Techau & Co., Inc. WISH TO ANNOUNCE THE OPENING OF A NEW SHOP AT 930 SPANISH COURT WILMETTE, ILL.
