October. 20, 1928 WINNETKA TALK Opponents Unable to Score Against Our Football Team The Winnetka football team, after tucking away four games without per- mitting its opponents to score, prom- ises to make good its early season's boast to give Winnetka football fans the best season's gridiron sport in local football annals. This the team is doing not alone in its stellar playing, and in game winning records, but also in the matching of some of the very best teams through- out the Chicago area, outside the pro- fessional class. Four of these teams have already appeared on the local gridiron but none of them was able to record a single score against the strong organization which Coach Bob Doepel has whipped into line. Encouraged by these successes, the Winnetka team is going one step fur- ther and signing up for future games teams whose records border so closely to that of the professional that a mere mention of their names is advertise- ment for the game. One of these is the strong Fort Sheridan team which held Lake Forest university to a 6 to 6 score. The "Army" boys have had equal success with the Beloit and Marquette fresh- men teams. The "Army" team will be here Sun- day afternoon, November 4. All games gre at Skokie Playfield, beginning at Tomorrow the Chicago Bellwoods will be here, and on the following Sun- day the Chicago Kiwanis are coming. Both are old organizations, whose long training and gridiron experience place them among the most formidable of opponents. : All these games are open to the public. The attendance is growing every week, and a record peak was attained with a crowd of 2,000 at one of the recent games. It is this sort of encouragement which lends valuable aid and stimulus to the local players. The boys are playing for the mere love of the sport, and to know that their winning en- deavors are appreciated, spurs them on to even greater effort. Every football fan realizes that con- siderable expense is incurred by the team in bringing to Winnetka every Sunday the type of players being booked for these weekly events. Postpone Discussion of Lincoln Ave. Extension Discussion of plans for the extension of Lincoln avenue from Elm street to Oak street, which it was expected would be taken up at the meeting of the Village council Tuesday evening, was deferred until the next meeting of that body, due to the fact there was not a quorum present. The proposition has been under con- sideration for some time, and only re- cently the streets, drainage and forest- ry committee, of which Trustee H. L. Raclin is chairman, announced that a report with recommendations would be submitted at an early date. Credit Association to Hold Conference Monday There will be a meeting of the Win- netka Credit Men's association at Community House Monday evening, October 22, at 8 o'clock. Members of the association and of the Chamber of Commerce are asked to attend.
