AI consi November 10, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 31 Invite Entries for National Pet Show to Be Held Nov. 15 From all parts of Chicago and its suburbs entries of all sorts of pet ani- mals are pouring in for the National Pet show, in which the children and adults of the north shore have been in- vited to participate. The show will be held at the First Regiment Armory, 16th street and Michigan avenue, No- vember 15 to 18, inclusive. Dogs, cats, monkeys, birds, guinea pigs, white mice, turtles, rabbits, fishes, foxes, goats and all other small household pets will be on view. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Y. M. C. A. juniors and many other organizations of boys and girls, as well as adults, are participating. First among the entries to be re- ceived was "Millie," the female don- key, attached to the Chicago Opera company. "Millie" is known to thou- sands of opera lovers for her work in "Pagliacci" and other operas. The donkey is the pet of the opera and therefore eligible for the show. Mrs. Irene Castle MacLauglin of Deerfield, has entered several "repat- riated" dogs from her dog refuge, the "Orphans of the Storm." Mrs. Mc- Laughlin wants to develop a love for and appreciation of all pets. Mrs. Henry Wohlert of 907 S. Kedzie ave- nue, Chicago, has entered a 23-pound cat. A. L. Gilmore of 2848 Milwaukee avenue has entered a five-legged dog and a lively monkey. Five chinchilla rabbits have been entered by J. B. Henderson of 6046 Harper avenue. A "singing dog" named "Whoop" has been entered by Miss Zelma Plass, 1352 East 48th street, and Anne Kol- bert of 7027 Sheridan road will show her sweet singing canary, named "Pe- ter Pan." Gladys Cook, a little blond orphan of 7210 S. Morgan street, has entered her guinea pig named "Topsy" and she thinks the animal is the best of her kind in the city and suburbs. A large number of fancy gold fish will be shown by the Chicago Aquari- um society. Hans Jensen, an officer of the society, said that one or two five-foot tanks would be installed at the show. A talking parot with a vocabulary of more than 250 words has been en- tered by Mrs. Ulysses S. Jenkins of 331 Belden avenue. She says the par- rot can sing "Rock a By Baby" and "Pretty Polly Perkins." "Tripper," an Irish terrier who was selected from among several thousands of dogs from all parts of the country by Harold Lloyd to play in one of the movie star's pictures, has been entered by Charlie Heck, 11 years old, of 9839 Vanderpool avenue. Evelyn Fitzroy, 12, of 7020 Rhodes avenue, has entered an ,Angora-Persian cat named "Geed- es. A troop of milk goats have been en- tered by the Illinois Milk Goat asso- ciation. The goats will come from the stock farm of Mrs. James A. Patten, wife of the "wheat king," Mrs. A. L. Farwell, Charles A. Stevens, M. C. Haedtler, and others. Scores of other entries have been received. George E. Pfisterer, of the Monad- nock block, manager of the show, ex- pects approximately 600 animals of all breeds. Entries are being received by A. Henderson, superintendent of the show, at 1823 S. Wabash avenue, tele- phone Calumet 1597. Trained atten- dants and veterinarians will be on duty day and night, and the management will supply food, water and otherwise care for the pets. TO CONDUCT R. C. DRIVE The Junior Neighbors held a meet- ing Sunday afternoon at the home of Estelle and Josephine Farley, 300 Ab- bottsford road, Kenilworth. The pur- pose of the meeting was to talk over the Red Cross drive which the girls have agreed to undertake this winter. Begin Work on 7-Story Apartment in Evanston Work started this week on the new seven-story apartment building which is to be erected on the northeast cor- ner of Grove street and Hinman ave- nue, Evanston. The owners have given up the idea of working this building as a co-ope- rative project and will offer all the apartments for rent on leases running for three to five years. All the exclu- sive features of this original co-opera- tive plan have been retained however which will make the building the first of its kind available to renting tenants. The units consist of seven six-room apartments, fourteen seven-room apart- ments and seven eight-room apart- ments, all with three or more baths, maids' rooms, and of course all the latest equipment including electric re- frigeration, incinerators, kitchen ven- tilators, recessed radiators, garages for each tenant, special maids' and chauf- feur's rooms in the basement, etc. Hokanson and Jenks, Inc, north shore real estate brokers, have been selected as exclusive rental agents for this building and from advance in- quiries expect to have all leases signed by the time the building is ready for occupancy which is set for May I, 1929. Robert W. Tansill Will Give Lecture on Alaska Robert W. Tansill, a member of the Alexander Revell Field Museum expe- dition to Alaska in 1927, will give a lecture, "Hunting the Kodiak Bear," at the Wilmette Methodist Episcopal church next Monday, November 12, at 8:15 p. m. The lecture will be illus- trated with motion pictures. A Dutch dinner will be served at the church at 6:30 p. m. under the auspices of the third division of the Ladies' Aid so- ciety.
