The Winnetka League of Women Voters has engaged Will Durant, au- thor of "The Story of Philosophy," for a lecture on the evening of Friday, December 7, at the Skokie school audi- torium. Mr. Durant draws large crowds to his lectures, and the league is certain that many people in Win- netka, Kenilworth, and Glencoe will welcome this opportunity to hear him. The proceeds of the lecture will be used for league work. The heavy ex- penses of the election just passed and those incidental to the coming session of the legislature make it necessary for the league to increase its income beyond that brought in by the mem- bership dues. Mrs. Randolph Buck will be in charge of the ticket sale and will announce the members of her committee at an early date. League workers were very active last Tuesday in their capacity of checkers at the polls and assisted the partisan groups by furnishing them with the lists of voters. Of course, the repairs are made promptly no matter what happens, but the user is necessarily de- prived of his service for at least a short time when such an accident occurs and this might be the time when the telephone would be most needed. It is therefore in the subscriber's own interest that we suggest that care be taken not to damage the instrument. Windows left open in summer, admitting a sudden rain storm, are also responsible for a great many cases of trouble. Occasionally a bottle of ink or a glass of water is overturned, wetting the telephone cord, and this also causes trouble. Subscribers will aid us in giving them the best service by taking good care of the equipment. ILLINOIS BELL TELEPHONE COMPANY BELL SYSTEM One Policy - One System - Universal Service
