--------; oo i sah November 24, 1928 WINNETKA TALK HIKERS CABIN SOON TO RECEIVE "GUESTS" Structure Provided Under Spon- sorship of Waltonians Now Approaching Completion The cabin provided by the Izaak Walton league for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Camp Fire Girls and all organi- zations and groups of Winnetka peo- ple who desire a hike to the woods or cozy quarters for an over-night camp, is soon to be a reality. The project has been discussed at various times for the past five years, but less than that many months will now elapse before one of the largest, most convenient, and certainly the most pic- turesque cabin in the entire Chicago area, will have been completed. Earl Weinstock, who has just finished sawing a yellow pine rafter. It was started in October, since which time work has been progressing, slow- ly, but surely. When it is completed, some sort of a house-warming is be- ing planned, when it will be formally opened, and all who desire may jour- ney to this spot in the woods and there behold how wisely the committee in charge has selected both site and de- sign for the cabin. The cabin is located on a five-acre tract, the north end of which is just across the line in Lake county, and is reached by means of a somewhat unfre- quented lane, leading north from Dun- dee road, starting about one-half mile cast of the Wheeling bridge. Boy Scouts and Path Finders, "skinning" logs The cabin is 66 feet in length, 24 feet wide and has a cement floor. On the east side of a large center room, 24 by 40 feet, is a huge fireplace, 13 feet across.
