Mr. Thomas, an American, went into the Holy Land early in the World war as official historian of the epochal events then being developed by the Allied forces in the Near East. He accompanied Allenby's cavalry army which swept the Turks from Palestine, and he was the only person to bring back the pictorial record and eye- witness story of the astonishing deeds of the mysterious Colonel Lawrence in Arabia. It is of these deeds that he will speak more particularly in his lecture this Sunday. 512% MONEY Have funds to loan on choice im- proved North Shore Suburban res- idence property at 5% % interest. TUBBS HAS PART IN HEALTH DRIVE Wilmette Educator Engages in Research Work to Promote General Health in Chicago Wime™ME LiFe has received a letter from Eston V.Tubbs of Wilmette, director of curriculum for the Chicago Board of Education, concernnig a plan for integrating all the health and so- cial service agencies of the city into one co-operative unit for promoting the general health of the community and for the more efficient alleviation of want among certain groups of the population. Mr. Tubbs, in company with Dr. Arnold Kegel, representing the Chicago Board of Health, recently made a trip to Toronto, Can. to interview health and school officials in charge of the health program there. They also visited some schools and health cen- ters where the actual work was in operation. Before returning to Chica- go Mr. Tubbs spent a day in Detroit visiting schools, and another at South Bend, Ind., a city which has received the national trophy for doing the most effective health work among school children. Named on Committee Upon their return to Chicago Dr. Kegel and Mr. Tubbs made their re- ports to a general committee composed of the leading citizens of the city. With Wilford S. Reynolds, director of the Chicago Council of Social Agencies, they were appointed as members of a committee to draft the plan of which Mr. Tubbs speaks in his letter. One of the most essential features of the plan will be the contribution to be made by the public schools of the city which Mr. Tubbs explains as follows: 1. The work of the Department of Physical Education to be emphasized and extended as means will permit. 2. A course of study in health edu- cation sponsored by the Bureau of Curriculum to be used throughout the schools. 3. Certain courses in health edu- cation to be required of all students for graduation from the Chicago Normal college. 4. Teachers who take courses in the field of health education to be given promotional credit for such courses. Constructive Work "We are convinced that the success- full working out of this plan is going to be one of the finest pieces of construc- tive work that has ever been put over in Chicago," Mr. Tubbs states. The plan will first be put into oper- ation in the district bounded by the river, North avenue and the lake. If it proves to be a success it will later be extended to cover the entire city.
