Spanish MacDowell : Bliss THREE AUTO FIRES The Winnetka Fire department ex- tinguished blazes which had started in three automobiles in the village this week, with a loss of about ten dol- lars in each case. The automobiles belonged to Raymond W. Rapp, 718 Center street, Joseph V. Stixrud, 607 Willow road, and M. A. Nathan, 900 Oak street. The fires were said to have been started by backfiring in the carburetors. Mr. and Mrs. E. J. McArdle, 111 Broadway avenue, Wilmette, announce the engagement of their daughter, Theresa J., to John Schnederger of Riverside, Ill. Miss McArdle's engage- ment was announced at a luncheon and bridge last Saturday. The wedding will take place about February 1. LEW SARETT ON TOUR Poet and Lecturer Will Begin Travels in January Lew Sarett, who will return to Evan- ston at the beginning of the second university semester in January to re- sume his classes as member of the faculty of the School of Speech, North- western university, will begin a trans- continental lecture tour soon after Christmas, according to word that comes from his home in Laona, Forest county, Wisconsin. His tour is expected to include a visit to Northwestern before he re- turns later on to assume his faculty duties and to bring his family here for several months' residence before spring takes them back to their home in the north woods. Mr. Sarett, widely-known and affec- tionately regarded by both "town and gown" in Evanston, is a poet whose writings concern chiefly the things of the woods and Indian life and lore. He has written three books of poetry, "May Moons," "The Box of God" and "Slow Smoke," and has another inter- esting work in the preparation at the present time. He is an advisory edi- tor of "Poetry," and in 1925 won its Helen Haire Levinson prize. He also wrote the ode read at the dedication of the memorial stadium at the Uni- versity of Illinois. He has been on the faculty of the School of Speech since 1920 when he came as an associate professor from the University of Illinois. He was later made professor of argumentation and persuasion and has since held the posi- tion, taking a recent sabbatical year's absence, and returning the last two years for the second semester to teach at Northwestern. CHRISTIAN SCIENCE SERVICE "Christian Science" will be the sub- ject at the services in the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Winnetka Sun- day morning, December 30, at 11 o'clock. Sunday school convenes at 9:35 o'clock. TRUCK HITS CAR A car parked on Church road at Meadow lane, owned by Burton Clo- clasure, 20, of Lake Bluff, was struck by a Star line truck late last Monday afternoon.
