It's very exciting to find this photo of my great grandfather, Edward Billingslea, (second from the left, back row) through the Wilmette Library archives!
There are no pictures of him in our family, but I have his work diary! Appts, etc. with a few personal observations. He lost my great-grandmother during the birth of my grandmother. He then married her sister who raised my grandmother in Evanston, Ill. He lived on Ellis Ave. according to his obituary.
I learned that my great-grandfather was a publisher in Evanston - might have been of local address / phone directories.
My son and I seem to have inherited his apparent "stick out ears" - we both had our ears put back. I grew up to be a writer and my son a visual artist!
I was raised in Northfield, Ill. for the first decade of my life, not far away, but then moved to many different cities throughout my childhood, now raising kids in in Ohio. My heart is still close to north Chicago.
