- Served with the Lorne Scots, obtaining rank of Sergeant in 1936. In 1940 received commission and was the platoon officer for Milton area. Went overseas in June 1941, served in England and on the Continent until the end of the war. Photo taken in England, 1943.

- Notes written by Roy Kelley accompanying this photograph are as follows: "Served with the Lorne Rifle Scottish Militia and obtained the rank of Sergeant in 1936. In 1940 he received his commission and was the platoon officer for Milton Area. He went overseas with the main body of the Lorne Scots in June 1941. Served in England with 2 Corps Defence Company where he had the privilege of commanding 200 man Royal Guards. Went to France shortly after D Day with a platoon that had 10 or 12 Oakville men. While in England he commanded and trained a 4.2 Mortar Company made up of PEI Light Horse. Was at Divisional H.Q. [in England] until February 1944 where he acted as Camp Commandant until he was hospitalized just as the big push into Germany started from Arnheim and spent the remaining days of the war at the Non-effective Transient Depot."
