Description
This one page article included in The Standard as of May 11, 1983 recalls the devastation of the Mississauga Forest Fire of 1948(this is part two of a two part series.

The article details the original report of the fire on May 25, 1948 by a pilot on a routine mapping flight. At the time of the report it was noted as a 15 acre smolder on the south shore of Rocky Island. The fire quickly became a very large conflagration that shut down the Raynor Dam with 700 workers posted either to the fire front or left behind to protect the construction.

Fire fighting efforts continued through to August of that summer with a final estimate of 3/4 of a million acres of forest being lost to fire.
Notes
Men were recruited from the street to help fight the fire with the promise of being paid 50cents/hour and the threat of a jail sentence for not going. Over 1500 men fought the fire before is eventual end.
