Algoma Mills six miles west of Blind River situated on Lake Lauzon provides a natural sea plan base for the Ontario Forestry department, Huronian Airways and Lau-goma Airways. There is also a cement block plant and a bulk storage location for the Shell Oil Company of Canada. There are dozens of Tourists Homes and now miners homes and trailer parks in this area. Twelve miles east of Blind River is Pronto Uranium Mines-employing some four hundred and fifty persons. Pronto was the first Uranium Mines in the area to be developed and to be put into production. It has been expanded considerably since it was first started. Some of the employees live right at Pronto but the major portion reside at Blind River. Spragge, sixteen miles east of Blind River is the location for a possible deep natural harbour and also the centre for the railroads sidings that serve the Elliot Lake mining area. All the materials for the mines and Elliot Lake are unloaded from railroad cars and transported to the uranium area from Spragge. Around these siding there is growing up a good size town consisting of garages to service the large number of trucks, complete tire service and homes for those that work at the siding and drive and repair the trucking machinery. A large hotel will soon be constructed in this area together with a drive-in theatre it will accommodate some five hundred cars. A new and larger school both at Algoma and Lewis Township will soon replace two of the oldest schools in the area. Cutler, 24 miles east of Blind River is the location of the great acid manufacturing plant of Noranda Mines Limited. It is here that the acid is manufactured and then shipped by tank truck to the Uranium Mines at Elliot Lake. Cutler is the cite of the best deep water harbour on the North Shore and will most likely be developed for docking facilities to accommodate, coal, lime, oil and other products used in large quanties in the industries of this area. There is no doubt that manufacturing ofmany other item will utimately take place in and around Cutler. The personnel that operate the plant in Cutler live at Spanish which is approximately 40 miles east of Blind River.
