- Snowshoes. Snowshoeing probably originated several thousand years ago. For North American Natives and early settlers snowshoes were a principal means of transportation. Snowshoes were originated by the North American Natives. They usually consisited of a wooden frame strengthened by rawhide Snow Shoes #1 were used by Mr. Berkley of Whitefish Lake, and Snowshoes #2 by Mr. Bill Wilson of Humphrey. Snowshoe frames were made by Mr. Alfred Dixon of Lake Joseph before 1898. Snowshoes #1 donated by Mr. & Mrs. Norm Sillito, Whitefish Lake, Snowshoes #2 loaned by Mrs. Marion Kosowan, Humphrey. Snowshoes #3 loaned by Mrs. Grace Hatherley, Humphrey.
