- Description
- This photograph shows the construction of a retaining wall along Trout Creek. The building in the background is the old curling club and was located where the Hardware Store is today. Some of the workers in the photo were recipients of relief which was an early form of welfare introduced during the depression of the 1930's. One of the conditions of relief was that recipients be working on whatever project they were assigned to for little or no payment. This program was controversial and did not help end the depression.
