Description
This property, now demolished, was once located at 194 Elgin Street West. Despite being of modest size, it displays touches of the Greek Revival style and includes a prominent doorway. The residence was likely built around the year 1858, with an add-on, seen to the left of the house in the photo, added at a later date.

The property was purchased by James Dean Williamson, a St. Marys merchant, in 1856. Years later, David White, a local farmer and father of White & May Co. local business founder Jeremiah White, bought the home and property in 1868. Mary White took ownership of the house after her father’s death in 1888, and rented out the property until 1913. Robert Bell then purchased the property from the White family and lived there until 1943. The house had several other residents the years following.

Hard copies of this image can be accessed at the St. Marys Museum & Archives.
