- Description
- The house was built in 1881 for James Thompson, a local grain merchant. The architect built the brick house in the Italianate style popular in that time period, specifically seen in the curvature of the window lintels and the ornate brackets under the roof. The house originally had an intricate wooden open porch with an upper balustrade balcony, which has been altered in this photograph taken in the 1970s. However, the façade seen on the house today is similar to the original look of the house, with the balcony and porch returned to the front of the home. In 1888, Thompson had sold the house and moved from St. Marys.
