Description

This home was built ca. 1870 for Grand Trunk Railway inspector Thomas Fogg. The house is believed to have been originally built with a type of soft yellow brick, later painted red; the house is currently painted white. The house is a frame construction, with a layer of veneer brick. The building gives an example of the Georgian Revival architectural style of the late 19th century. The decorative pediments over the upper windows are manufactured tin-work, designed so they can easily be removed and placed back on the house. The front door is walnut, and is believed to have been constructed in a carpentry shop in Sarnia, Ontario. The house also features a transom window over the door along with sidelight windows. A lantern sits above the front door, mounted in elegant brackets.

Other notable owners of the house include William Moscrip, who owned the house from 1889 to 1900. James Maxwell lived in the home with his family from 1950 until 1963. It was the Maxwells who first painted the house white. Almost all of the exterior features of this house remain to this day.
