Description

A portrait taken of Mrs. James Mills (maiden name Mary Ann Coulter). Mrs. Mills was known at the time for being the oldest woman in Canada. Mrs. Mills was born in Ireland in 1788. She moved to Canada in 1857 with her husband James Mills. She and her husband settled in the Woodham area; however, Mrs. Mills was widowed only two years after arriving in Canada and remained widowed until her passing in 1903 at 115 years old.

This photo was owned by local amateur photographer Milton Reesor. However, it is believed that he did not take the photo himself; another local photographer was responsible. The inscription at the bottom of the photo gives the wrong age of Mrs. Mills' death.

Notes

Condition: Fair - Image is not very clear. Severe fading of image due to age and light damage, specifically around the outer edges of the photo. Blemishes and wear along the bottom edge of the photograph. Slight discolouration of photo. Album matte in good condition, some staining around paper edges.
