Description
A photograph showing the Water Street Bridge in 1898. This photo is the earliest known photo taken of the Water Street Bridge. The steel through-truss bridge was built in the year 1898. The photo was taken by local amateur photograph Milton Reesor. The full length of the bridge can be seen in this photo along with the approaches and railings on either side. At this time, the mill dam was blocking the mouth of Trout Creek, which created a deep body of water.

Many local residents felt that limestone was the only fitting material to be used for a bridge in St. Marys. However, the construction of this steel-trussed bridge was cheaper and faster than a stone bridge would have been. Several landmarks are visible behind and around the bridge including the old Fire Hall tower on Water Street, the Methodist Church spire is visible to the left of the Fire Hall through the bridge's trusses and to the far left the Town Hall can be spotted.
