Description: This photograph was taken by local photographers Carter & Isaac in the early 20th century. The photo gives a view of a rural stone home with a family sitting on the front lawn. The family unit appears to include a man and woman, presumably husband and wife with their son. The family are well-dressed for the portrait. A dog is lying in the grass to the right of the family.

The home is covered in fieldstone and featuers a frame addition covered in wooden siding. An open dormer window is set atop the addition of the home, the open window an indication that the photo was taken in the warmer summer months. Lightning rods sit atop the roofs. The addition features a covered porch with gingerbread porch brackets. Vines are growing up strings attached to the roof of the porch. Trees and bushes have been planted against the wall of the stone home.

The Carter & Isaac company specialized in outdoor photography, focusing on houses and farmsteads in rural Ontario. William Webster Carter was the photographer and traveled by horse and buggy through the countryside with his camera and other equipment. His wife, Bertha Isaac, processed the glass negatives and made prints for sale. Carter & Isaac took photographs in the St. Marys area between 1902 and 1906 and briefly again in 1908.

This image is a contact print made from the original glass plate negative. The contact identifier number can be seen in the bottom corner of the photograph where Carter & Isaac have scratched it into the emulsion. The number is 921. This photo is part of a collection of photos which appear to have been taken in the northern part of Oxford County.
Notes: Condition: Good - Image is very clear. No physical damage to glass. Top left corner has some emulsion loss. Several scratches in emulsion at top right corner (3cm and 5cm in length). Emulsion flaw, circular in shape at top of negative on right side. Bottom right edge has surface damage (9cm long).
