Description: This photograph was taken by local photographers Carter & Isaac in the early 20th century. This photo features a family sitting on the front lawn of a farmhouse next to a large spruce tree. It appears to include two parents and their children. There are three younger children with the man and woman, a boy and two young girls. The boy is wearing a refined shirt with many ruffles. A dog is posed between the man and woman. A young man is standing behind the group, possibly an older son or a relative.

The house is simple in its style. It has a shiplap board exterior and features two small windows where potted plants are visible inside on the window sills. There are two narrow sidelight windows on either side of the front door. A lean-to addition has been added to the side of the home. To the right of the image, a woven wire fence is enclosing a pasture where a horse can be seen grazing. Rain-gatherers are sitting below the eaves.

The Carter & Isaac company specialized in outdoor photography, focusing on houses and farmsteads in rural Ontario. William Webster Carter was the photographer and traveled by horse and buggy through the countryside with his camera and other equipment. His wife, Bertha Isaac, processed the glass negatives and made prints for sale. Carter & Isaac took photographs in the St. Marys area between 1902 and 1906 and briefly again in 1908.

This image is a contact print made from the original glass plate negative. The contact identifier number can be seen in the bottom corner of the photograph where Carter & Isaac have scratched it into the emulsion. The number is 940. This photo is part of a collection of photos which appear to have been taken in the northern part of Oxford County.
Notes: Condition: Good - Image is clear. Bottom right corner of glass plate is missing. Discolouration along left edge due to oxidation. Only small emulsion flaws present - one in the upper left quadrant (1.3cm in length), another in lower left corner (2cm in length).
