Description: This photograph was taken by local photographers Carter & Isaac in the early 20th century. The photo shows a woman with three girls and an infant, possibly her children. The woman is sitting in a chair with a baby in her lap. Two little girls are standing to her right and an older girl is standing behind her. A wire fence surrounds the property behind the group.

The photo also features a large brick home in the country. Thick ivy is growing up the side of the home. The house has arched windows with decorative brick headers. Fancy brickwork is also featured over the doorway. The top of a covered porch can be seen at the side of the house. Ginger breading and a finial add decoration to the peaks of the roof.

The Carter & Isaac company specialized in outdoor photography, focusing on houses and farmsteads in rural Ontario. William Webster Carter was the photographer and traveled by horse and buggy through the countryside with his camera and other equipment. His wife, Bertha Isaac, processed the glass negatives and made prints for sale. Carter & Isaac took photographs in the St. Marys area between 1902 and 1906 and briefly again in 1908.

This image is a contact print made from the original glass plate negative. The contact identifier number can be seen in the bottom corner of the photograph where Carter & Isaac have scratched it into the emulsion. The number is 1111. This photo is part of a collection of photos which appear to have been taken in the northern part of Oxford County.
Notes: Condition: Poor - Image is somewhat clear. Bottom right corner of glass plate is chipped. Slight oxidation around outer edges (<1cm at widest point). Moderate scratching all over negative surface, deepest scratch in upper left quadrant (2.5cm in length). Emulsion deterioration along left edge (1cm at widest point). Slight emulsion loss long right edge, most severe deterioration in lower right quadrant. Large area of emulsion loss in lower right quadrant (length: 4.3cm, width: 3.2cm).
