Description
This photo was taken by local amateur photographer Milton Reesor in the spring of 1904. The photo features Anton Hanslian from Austria with his wife Leopoldine and their child. In the early 1900s, Hanslian began a journey around the world, pushing his wife and daughter in a perambulator. The journey began with a wager between Hanslian and the New York Herald in which he would walk a set amount of miles (some reports say 7,000, others state 15,000 or 25,000 miles) and the Herald would reward him with $2,000.

The Hanslians started in Vienna, traveled through Europe to England and made their way to North America. In 1904, Milton Reesor captured this image of the family traveling south through St. Marys on Water Street. The old Park Street Bridge can be seen in the background. An unidentified man can be seen watching the family pass by from behind a tree to the right.
