- Description
- This photo shows the building located at 142 Queen Street East. The photo was taken in the early 1980s when the building still housed the St. Marys Journal-Argus. The building was used for the St. Marys Journal originally and housed the Eedy publishing firm since 1895; when the Journal and the Argus merged to become one newspaper in the 1920s the paper remained in this building.
This building was erected by T.B. Guest in 1868. It was designed with Classical Revival style elements and constructed with large coursed limestone blocks. The building contains ornate wooden mouldings and details around the display windows. This building has been historically designated.
In the winter and early spring of 1982-1983, Randall Speller, a colleague of Larry Pfaff from the Art Gallery of Ontario, took a series of black and white photographs of houses and buidlings of architectural significance in St. Marys. Larry Pfaff and several local friends who shared this interest in architecture took some additional photographs in a subsequent summer. This photograph is one of this series. - Notes
