- Description
- This image is one in a series of postcards from the Reg Near collection. This is a photograph postcard of the swimming Quarry. It is summer time and there are many people out and enjoying the Quarry. Many swimmers can be spotted in the water. There are also many people on the deck. Three people are standing on the high dive. Also notice the people sitting and standing on the cliff to the right side of the photo.
There are three rafts visible in this photo, all of which have people on them. Today the Quarry only has two rafts.
The Quarries were allowed to fill with water between the years 1930-1935. St. Marys residents used the quarry as a swimming pool since this time, but its popularity increased after World War II in 1945.
This postcard has not been used, but there is a date stamped onto the back of the card. The date is August 12, 1962. - Notes
