Description
This limestone one-storey house was built c. 1863 for Frances Sophia Hill. In later years, post-1940, it would become known as the home of Walter Cull and his family. The house looks much different today than when this photo was taken in the mid-1980s. A restoration project was completed on the house which included the restoration of the monitor on the roof and shutters on the windows. The monitor blew off the house during a windstorm in 1933. The spot where the monitor should be sitting can be seen in the photo on top of the hipped roof. The house also features large, smooth stone lintels above the windows and projecting quoins.

In the winter and early spring of 1982-1983, Randall Speller, a colleague of Larry Pfaff from the Art Gallery of Ontario, took a series of black and white photographs of houses of architectural significance in St. Marys. Larry Pfaff and several local friends who shared this interest in architecture took some additional photographs in a subsequent summer. This photograph is one of this series.
