Description
This house located at 130 Wellington Street North was built c. 1890 for local merchant Robert Dickson by architect George Gouinlock. Gouinlock was responsible for the design and construction of the current St. Marys Town Hall. The house became known locally as "Gray Gables". It is two and a half storeys and was constructed with locally quarried St. Marys limestone. Red sandstone trim emphasizes the windows of the house. It was built in the Romanesque Revival style with round-headed windows on the front façade, rusticated stone masonry, machicolation under the roof eaves, and a front entrance portico cut out of the exterior. The house also features two-storey bay windows on the southwest corner and dormers on the roof.

In the winter and early spring of 1982-1983, Randall Speller, a colleague of Larry Pfaff from the Art Gallery of Ontario, took a series of black and white photographs of houses of architectural significance in St. Marys. Larry Pfaff and several local friends who shared this interest in architecture took some additional photographs in a subsequent summer. This photograph is one of this series.
