Description
This image is one in a series of postcards from the Reg Near collection. It shows a street view of Lakeside with two men sitting on the porch of the hotel and two others riding in a horse-drawn carriage. Lakeside was originally a postal village established in 1856, and by 1874 it contained a hotel, blacksmith shops, a sawmill, and boasted a population of 150. Although it was predominantly a milling settlement for much of its history, by 1967 Lakeside's population was only 85 and its economy is now focused on recreation and tourism. This photo was taken circa 1910.
