Description
This is a photograph of R. Lorne Eedy (right) meeting with Jean Chrétien (second from right) for the Journal Argus newspaper. Jean Chrétien was the 20th Prime Minister of Canada, in office from 1993 to 2003 for the Liberal Party of Canada. At the time that this photograph was taken (1980s), he was not yet Prime Minister, but was still heavily involved in Canadian politics. In the 80s, Jean Chrétien was the Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources, then the Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary for External Affairs.

R. Lorne Eedy succeeded his father, John Wilson Eedy, as the publisher/editor for the Journal Argus. The Journal Argus was created in 1920 when John Wolfe Eedy amalgamated the St. Marys Journal and the St. Marys Argus, the town's two newspapers at the time. The newspaper stayed in the Eedy family for four generations, until it was sold to Metroland Media, a subsidiary of Torstar, in 1999. The last edition of the St. Marys Journal Argus was published on November 23, 2017.
