Harbour_Panel12_13 Continued interest and increasing membership, together with the long awaited improvements to the harbour and marina, allowed for the building of a new clubhouse. In October 1985 Mayor Mac Lees turned the first sod for the new building. With a provincial grant, donations and voluntary work by members to reduce costs, a two story structure measuring 24' by 48' was built. It included washrooms and showers, a modern galley and storage, and a balcony on two sides. In 1987 the new building was officially opened by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, the Honourable Lincoln Alexander. The object of the CYC is to promote sailing and boating and related social activities. The club boasts an excellent cruising program as well as Keelboat and Dinghy racing. The summer program includes the Sail Past, Pig Roast, Members' Day and Lobsterfest, and the winter features bi-weekly themed pub nights as well as holiday celebrations. In 2015 the Cobourg Yacht Club will celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the granting of its Charter. Material supplied by Commodore Tony Pitts.
