StAndrews_Panel PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH The "Old Scotch Kirk" opens near the corner of William and Ontario Streets but is abandoned in 1862 following a split within the denomination, and destroyed in 1879. 1834 The majority of the congregation, having lost legal right to their Old Kirk, builds a fine new one. Its facade is similar to St. Peter's, but raised by three flights of steps leading to three entrances. The tower is topped with a spire like the one on Trinity United. 1862 The spire is struck by lightning, burned and never replaced.1925 January - The church is completely destroyed by fire.1937 In June the cornerstone is laid for a new one.1937 East WIng December - The new church is dedicated, a beautifully simple rubble-stone parish-like church.
