- (A) - rectangular, wooden base, bevelled edge; rectangular wooden box attached to base, rounded top edge; attached to top of box with four slotted screws is black plastic[?] rectangle; protruding through 2 holes in rectangle are 2 silver columns, both have 2 holes running horizontally through them for D and E and 1 centre top threaded hole for B and C ; black mark on colum with minus markings
- on side of box are 5 screws with bolts on ends, secure a vertical gold metal rectangle with curved top and white rectangle with 2 small grommitted holes; black metal disk behind gold rectangle is part of white rectangle bent to make connection with gold rectangle; to the lower right of this set-up is a silver label with black type that reads: "ELECTRIC TECHNIC/PRODUCTS/CHICAGO 40, ILLINOIS, U.S.A."
- on base next to box are 2 black terminals; centre gold hollow cylinders are covered with black cuff that turns and moves up to reveal centre cylinder; above one is "-" [minus sign] abd the other "+" [plus sign], both are handwritten in black; next to minus sign a hole has been cut through base; next to plus sign is black shiny plastic nob
(B) - silver; metal screw; large flat round head; "+" handwritten in blue on top of head (D-1.9cm, H-1.8cm)
C) - same as B with following exception: "-" handwritten in blue on top of head
(D & E) - metal spike with black handle; inserted through holes in columns of A, when electrified sparks sit inbetween two spikes, (L-18.7cm, W-1cm)
- used in science labs at CCI in early 1900s
- first school built at corner of Murray and Prince streets in 1855, known as Chatham Grammar School
- 1870s school was turned into a high school
- 1887 school obtained collegiate status
- September 1940 the building on site today was opened
- spring of 2002 school was slated to be closed a campaign to keep it open lasted one year and school finally closed in spring of 2003
