- - plated steel device identified as a probe guide
- 1/2 cone shaped with a tapered groove at the top and ending with a small ball, extending from the tapered cone at about 45 degrees is a tear drop shaped handle with grooved/fluted top
- stamped on the underside of the handle is a small figure "8" with a "P" in the top circle and an "S" in the bottom circle, on the top of the handle above the grooved portion is scratched "P.G.H."
- came from a leather doctor's bag filled with medical equipment and a note indicating that is was taken from Dr. Ross Hamilton's office in 1951, Dr. Ross Hamilton died early 1957
-The Public General Hospital building in Chatham, Ontario was completed in 1893. In addition to assuming the normal functions of a hospital, PGH also included a Training School for Nurses. The Alumnae Association of the Chatham General Hospital Training School for Nurses was established in 1921. By 1960, seven additions had been added to the original hospital building. In 1964, a new Nurses' Education Building was opened. Since then, several construction projects have been undertaken, from the 1966 demolition of the original hospital building and subsequent construction of the new west wing (1968) to the 2004 establishment of the new Chatham-Kent Health Alliance which amalgamated Public General Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital. The School of Nursing was transferred to St. Clair College in 1973.
