- Description
- This image depicts the St. Marys Collegiate Institute, looking southeast. Built in 1875, its most famous graduate was Arthur Meighen, who was the ninth Prime Minister of Canada. The school had been added onto many times, and this image shows an addition from the 1930s. It was a secondary school until it no longer was large enough for the demand of the town, so in 1955, when a new high school was opened, it became a public school. The school was renamed Arthur Meighen Public School in 1984, but it closed in 2011 and was eventually torn down in 2016.
