A black and white portrait of Harold Defoe Lang (1900-1986).

Harold Defoe Lang was born in Downie Township on March 2, 1900, the son of Lester Wilson Lang and Alice Maude Sheldon. He graduated from the University of Toronto in 1920 and from Osgoode Hall in 1923. He then returned to St. Marys to practice law. On July 1, 1930, he married Marion Christine Grieve, who was also originally from Downie Township. The couple would have five children together, three sons and two daughters.

Lang was also elected mayor of St. Marys in 1930 at the age of 30. He served two terms. He was appointed Sheriff of Perth County in 1935. He was also county court clerk and registrar of the supreme and surrogate courts. He was appointed Perth County Judge in 1945. He was also the founding president of the Stratford Film Council. He died in April 1986 in his 87th year.
