- Description
- An exterior photograph of Kingsway Nursing Home from 1964, previously known as the Fraleigh house. The ground, trees, and roof are covered in snow. The Fraleigh house was used as a residence until 1950 when a group of interested citizens purchased the property in hopes of turning it into a community center for the town. However, this idea did not succeed, so the house remained a residence until the site became a retirement home.
The large double verandah across the front of the house was built by Earl D. Burtt, a previous owner of the property. In September 1955, a Mr. James McFarlane of London took over the property from Burtt, and the site may have become Kingsway Nursing Home at that point.
So, in this 1964 photo, the Fraleigh house could have already been operating as Kingsway Nursing Home for around nine years. In 2024, this site at 310 Queen Street East is still Kingsway Lodge Nursing Home, having undergone many expansions and renovations since the 1950s and 60s. - Date de l'original
