Description
By the time this photograph was taken (ca. 1903) the former Star Inn was the private residence of the family of James Moore - members of this family are posing in the picture. The Star Inn had been built in the 1850s in the expectation that the depot for the new Grand Trunk Railway line would be nearby. It was located several miles to the east and the inn did not prosper.

It was sold to James Moore in 1887. He had a farm nearby and his wife, a weaver, used one of the large downstairs rooms of the old inn for her loom. The upstairs bedrooms accommodated their large family of ten children.

The date of the photograph and the arrangement of the people in front of the building strongly suggests that the photographer was W. W. Carter of Carter & Isaac, Outdoor Photographers.

In later years, this house fell on very hard times. Expansion of the Queen Street road allowance meant the end to the gracious veranda and lawn. Derelict, the building was demolished in 2010.
